Error prevention mechanism (AAA)
Silktide finds forms on your pages and asks you to confirm that submissions can be reversed, checked, or confirmed before they take effect. At this level the requirement applies to every form that requires the user to submit information, not just those with legal or financial consequences.
Why this matters
Every form is a chance to submit something wrong: a mistyped email address on a support request, the wrong date on a booking enquiry, an incomplete answer sent too soon. People with motor, visual or cognitive disabilities make these slips more often, and are less likely to spot them before pressing submit.
A review step, validation pass, or undo option catches mistakes at the moment they are cheapest to fix. Applying this to all forms is a accessibility requirement - the strictest tier, which not every website will choose to meet.
How to fix it
For each form, provide at least one of these safeguards:
- Reversible - the submission can be undone afterwards.
- Checked - entered data is validated for errors, and the user is given the chance to correct them before the submission takes effect.
- Confirmed - a review step shows what is about to be submitted and asks the user to confirm it.
For simple forms, checking is usually the lightest option: validate the fields and let the user correct anything wrong before the submission counts.
If a flagged form already has one of these safeguards, the finding.
How Silktide tests this
- Find every form on each page.
- Skip forms with no fields a visitor can actually use (hidden or non-interactive forms), and any elements you have excluded from checking.
- Flag each remaining form for your review. Silktide cannot verify validation, confirmation, or undo behaviour automatically, because these only appear when the form is actually submitted, so a human decides.
Troubleshooting
The confirmation step is on a later page
Silktide examines each page independently and cannot follow a multi-step submission. If your process ends with a review-and-confirm step, the form complies; approve the finding.
How is this different from the AA check?
The AA version only covers forms with legal, financial, or data-changing consequences. This AAA version extends the same safeguards to every form that collects information from the user.
