Labels screen

Labels are reusable markers for grouping websites, sections, or documents. Silktide 4 called these tags; the name changed in Silktide 5 so they are not confused with HTML tags or PDF accessibility tags. See What happened to tags?.

Website labels live in Website settings. Document labels live in Document settings. Task labels live in Settings → Task labels. Each product keeps its own list: a "Marketing" label for websites is not the same label as "Marketing" for documents or tasks, even when the names match.

Create a label when the same classification will be useful more than once, such as a business unit, region, owner, or lifecycle stage. Use a consistent naming pattern so people can find and apply the right label.

Before deleting or renaming a label, consider saved filters and reporting conventions that may rely on it. For websites, labels provide flexible classification, while Metadata provides structured fields with defined value types.
