Captions
Captions are synchronised text shown over video or audio that convey the dialogue plus meaningful sounds - who is speaking, music cues, alarms, laughter. They exist so people who are deaf or hard of hearing can follow the media.
Captions differ from subtitles, which translate dialogue for hearing viewers and omit non-speech sounds. On the web, captions are typically delivered as a <track> element inside a video player, or through the player's own captioning feature.
