Text match

Text match is a check you create yourself. You give it one or more phrases, and Silktide finds every place those phrases appear across your pages. What it means when a phrase appears - and what to do about it - is up to you.

Teams use text matches to find outdated product names after a rebrand, banned or non-compliant wording, placeholder text like "lorem ipsum" that escaped into production, or terms a style guide says to avoid.

How to fix it

Each finding shows the matched phrase in context, so you can judge whether it is a problem in that spot. Edit the page in your to remove or replace the phrase, or findings that are acceptable where they are.

How Silktide tests this

  1. You define the check with one or more phrases to find, one per line.
  2. Choose a match type: Whole words only matches the phrase as complete words ("cat" does not match "catalog"), while Any text matches anywhere, even inside longer words.
  3. Optionally make matching case sensitive; by default it is not.
  4. Silktide searches the text people can see on each page, plus such as image alt attributes. Elements you have excluded from checking are skipped.
  5. Every occurrence becomes a finding showing the match and its surrounding text, highlighted on the page in the Inspector.

Troubleshooting

A phrase on the page is not found

Check the match type. With Whole words, a phrase inside another word does not match; switch to Any text if you want substring matching. Also confirm the text is real page text: text drawn inside images or embedded media cannot be searched.

Too many findings

Prefer longer, more specific phrases. Matching short common words with Any text can flag hundreds of harmless occurrences.
