Social site name
When a page is shared on social networks and in messaging apps, the preview can show which website it comes from, separate from the page title. Silktide checks that each page declares this site name.
The site name is set with an tag in the page's :
<!-- The website's name, shown separately from the page title -->
<meta property="og:site_name" content="Example University" />
Why this matters
Shared previews often show both a page title and a source. The title explains the specific page; the site name shows who published it, which builds recognition and trust. When the site name is missing, platforms may show nothing or fall back to the bare domain name, which looks less polished and less recognisable than your actual brand.
How to fix it
- In your , look for a site name, brand name, or
site identity setting - most CMSs and SEO plugins output
og:site_namesite-wide from a single field. - Use the name visitors recognise, such as your organisation or service name. Keep it short, keep it consistent across the site, and do not put the page title here.
How Silktide tests this
- Test each page that could be shared - pages search engines and platforms are allowed to index.
- Read the page's
og:site_nametag. - Report the page if the tag is missing or empty.
