Credible proof on conversion pages

Credible proof on conversion pages means the visitor can see evidence that someone else already trusted this - close to the moment they are asked to buy, book, or share contact details. That evidence is : named testimonials, review scores with a source, customer logos with permission and context, case-study results, and guarantees you actually keep.

Throughout this page, suppose Fernwood wants pricing and trial pages to convert finance teams who have never heard of Fernwood, and who will not take a salesperson's word for it.

This is the conversion counterpart to Quotable claims and evidence blocks (how claims survive quotation) and Review platform presence (where many of the strongest ratings live).

Why it works

Every conversion asks a stranger to take a risk. People discount what a brand says about itself and overweight what peers, recognisable customers, and independent platforms say. Classic persuasion research and everyday buying behaviour agree: proof next to the ask beats proof buried on an About page nobody opens mid-checkout.

Hollow proof fails for the same reason fake reviews fail - visitors and machines both learn the tells. An anonymous quote ("Great product! - A.S."), a logo wall of companies that never used you, or "trusted by thousands" with no path to verify it raises doubt instead of lowering it.

Decide what proof you honestly have

Inventory before designing. Rank what you can show by specificity × verifiability:

StrengthExample for FernwoodWeak substitute
Named customer + role + result"Maya Chen, Controller at Northwind Labs: cut reimbursement cycle from 12 days to 3""Customers love our speed"
Sourced platform rating"4.6 / 5 on G2 from 180 reviews" with linkStar graphic with no source
Recognisable customer, permissionedLogo + one-line context ("Northwind Labs - 400 employees")Logo grid with no names you can defend
Third-party coverageQuote from a trade publication with link"As seen in…" collage of publications that never named you
Guarantee you honour"Cancel in-app in two clicks; unused prepaid months refunded""Satisfaction guaranteed" with buried conditions
Usage magnitude (if true and stable)"Used by 1,200 finance teams" with dateInflated or forever-"growing" counters

If the honest inventory is thin, the fix is not better copy on the pricing page - it is Review platform presence, Original research, case studies, and product experience worth quoting. Do not fabricate testimonials; that is Fake and incentivised reviews territory and illegal when the endorsement is fake or the connection is hidden (FTC Endorsement Guides).

Anatomy of proof that converts

On pricing, sign-up, and demo pages, proof should appear:

  1. Near the primary on the first screen (one strong proof beat is enough)
  2. Again beside plan comparison or form fields
  3. Optionally once more after objections (security, pricing, implementation)

Visitors convinced at screen three should not scroll to the footer to find the only testimonial. Pair this with Primary CTA clarity so proof supports one action instead of decorating five.

2. Name people and sources

WeakStrong
"Amazing support!""Maya Chen, Controller, Northwind Labs - 'Support resolved our SSO issue in one business day.'"
★★★★★"4.6 / 5 on G2 (180 reviews, checked March 2026)" linking to the live profile
Logo rowLogo + "Northwind Labs uses Fernwood for 400 employees' expenses"

Attributed quotes must be real, current enough to still be true, and used with permission. Employee or incentivised quotes need disclosure under the same FTC rules that govern endorsements elsewhere.

3. Prefer numbers that survive quotation

Write proof the way Quotable claims and evidence blocks teach: subject, metric, timeframe, source.

Northwind Labs cut average reimbursement time from 12 days to 3 after moving expense approvals into Fernwood (internal finance metrics, Q4 2025; shared with permission).

Avoid irony, absolute superlatives you cannot defend, and screenshots of Slack praise you were not cleared to publish.

4. Match proof to the ask

Page goalProof that fits
Start free trialFast time-to-value quotes; "no card required" if true
Book demoPeer titles ("Controller," "VP Finance"); implementation timelines
Enterprise buySecurity certifications, named logos in the buyer's peer set, procurement quotes
Download researchMethodology + sample size (the content is the proof)

Enterprise visitors ignored by consumer-app store screenshots will bounce; SMBs unmoved by Fortune 100 logos will too. Choose peers the visitor recognises as "like us."

5. Keep mobile proof readable

On a phone, a five-logo carousel that never pauses, or a testimonial carousel that hides the attribution below the fold, fails the proof job. Show one complete proof unit (quote + name + role, or rating + source) without requiring a swipe.

What does not count as credible proof

  • Anonymous or initial-only testimonials with no way to verify
  • Logo walls of partners, investors, or press that never used the product
  • Star ratings generated on-page with no platform link
  • "As featured in" bars built from paid advertorials presented as editorial - if you must show them, label sponsorship honestly (Affiliate and sponsored placements)
  • Stock photos of "customers"
  • Guarantees contradicted by the terms two clicks away
  • Social counters that are private, rented, or bought

Maintenance

  • Re-check quotes quarterly. People change jobs; results age; permission expires.
  • Sync ratings with the live platform. A pricing page that still says "4.9 from 40 reviews" when G2 shows 4.4 from 200 is a trust landmine.
  • Update when the product changes. Proof about a retired feature is false advertising in slow motion.
  • Remove what you cannot defend. Empty proof slots are better than fake ones.
