WCAG

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the international standard for making web content usable by people with disabilities. It is published by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) and is the basis of most accessibility law and policy worldwide - and the standard that most of Silktide's accessibility checks test against.

WCAG is organised into numbered success criteria (such as 2.4.7 Focus Visible), each assigned to a : A, AA, or AAA. Versions 2.1 and 2.2 are the ones organisations typically target today. Each criterion is also tagged with a principle - Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, or Robust (POUR) - that describes the kind of barrier it prevents.

Silktide maps individual checks to specific WCAG criteria and levels so you can see coverage against the version and level your organisation targets. For PDFs, is the file format companion: it overlaps WCAG in intent but is a separate, PDF-specific standard.
