Grammar

Silktide reads the visible text of your pages and reports likely grammatical mistakes, such as repeated words, wrong verb forms, or mismatched plurals. Grammar has more legitimate exceptions than spelling, so you review each finding and either correct it or approve it.

For example, all of these would be reported:

  • "Please complete the the form below." (repeated word)
  • "The results was published in May." (subject-verb disagreement)
  • "We could of contacted you sooner." (confused phrase - "could have")

Why this matters

Grammatical mistakes read as carelessness, and readers extend that judgment to your organization. They also make sentences genuinely harder to parse - for people reading quickly, people reading in a second language, and people using , a garbled sentence may simply fail to communicate.

Like typos, grammar problems cluster in content nobody rereads after publishing. Automated checking surfaces them across thousands of pages at once.

How to fix it

  1. Correct genuine mistakes in your and republish.
  2. findings that are intentional - slogans, quoted speech, informal voice, or house style. Approving stops Silktide reporting that instance again.
  3. If a whole page is flagged in the wrong language, fix the page's language rather than approving each finding - see how languages work.

How Silktide tests this

  1. Determine each page's language - see how languages work. A page is checked in the language it names for itself, or in the website's language when the website has only one. A page that could be in several of the website's languages, and does not say which, is skipped rather than checked against the wrong rules.
  2. Extract the text people actually see, ignoring code, hidden elements, and any elements you have excluded from checking.
  3. Analyze each sentence against grammatical rules for its language, covering agreement, word confusion, repeated words, and common stylistic mistakes.
  4. Report each suspect sentence with the problem highlighted and, where possible, a suggested correction.

Troubleshooting

The flagged text is intentional

Marketing copy, headlines, and quotes often break grammatical rules deliberately. That is what approval is for - approve the finding and it will not return.

The suggestion is wrong

Grammar checking is probabilistic and no tool gets every sentence right. Treat suggestions as prompts for judgment, not instructions. Approve anything you decide is correct as written.

Sentence fragments in navigation are flagged

Text assembled from separate page elements can occasionally be read as one sentence. If a finding makes no sense as prose, this is usually why - approve it, and consider excluding that element from checking.

Some pages are not grammar-checked

On a website with several languages, Silktide only checks a page whose language it knows. Give the page a language: enable Trust page-declared language in Advanced settings if your pages declare it correctly, or add a URL rule or a per-page override. Then retest.
