Following links in the Inspector

You can click links inside the Inspector's page preview, just as you would on the live website. The Inspector follows the link for you and works out the best place to take you.

  • If the linked page has been tested, the Inspector navigates to it. The URL, scores, and results all update to match the new page, so you can browse your results by clicking around your site the way a visitor would.
  • If the linked page is not in your results (for example, a link to another website, or a page that was not tested), it opens in a new browser tab instead. The Inspector stays where it is.
  • Links within the same page (such as a table of contents) scroll the preview to that part of the page.

Email and phone links open your usual mail or phone app.

Browsing one check across pages

If you have a check or tool open when you follow a link, it stays open on the new page. For example, with the Spelling check open, you can click through your site page by page and review each page's spelling issues as you go.

Things to know

  • The preview shows the page as it was tested, so the links you see are the ones found during testing. If the live site has changed, retest to refresh them.
  • Because your results follow the tested version of each page, following a link always shows tested evidence, never the live site inside the preview.
