Favicons

Silktide shows you every favicon your website uses so you can confirm each one is correct and current. Favicons are the small icons browsers show for your site in tabs and bookmarks, and it is common for parts of a website to carry old or incorrect ones.

Because Silktide cannot know what your icon is supposed to look like, this check asks you to review each detected and approve the ones that are what you expect. If a new favicon appears on a later scan, it is flagged for review too, so an accidental icon change gets noticed.

Why this matters

A favicon is a small but persistent piece of your brand, visible in every tab and bookmark. Outdated logos, default icons left by a or hosting platform, and mismatched icons across sections of a site all slip through easily because nobody routinely looks at them. A periodic review catches rebrands that missed a corner of the site and template changes that swapped an icon unintentionally.

How to fix it

  1. Look at each flagged favicon - the icon image is shown alongside the pages using it.
  2. the ones that are correct. Approved favicons are not flagged again.
  3. Where an icon is wrong or outdated, replace the icon file or update the <link rel="icon"> tag in the affected pages' templates, then re-check on the next scan.

How Silktide tests this

  1. On each page, find the favicons declared with <link> tags whose rel attribute includes icon, plus the conventional /favicon.ico fallback at the site root when it exists.
  2. Flag each favicon you have not yet approved, showing the icon image, its sizes and format, and the pages that use it.
