Analytics
Silktide checks that every page of your website includes an analytics solution. Analytics tools measure who visits your site and how they behave, and they can only measure pages they are installed on.
Reputable analytics solutions - including Google Analytics, Matomo, and Plausible - are widely available, often free, and usually installed by adding a small snippet to your site template or by switching on a plugin.
Why this matters
Without analytics you are running your website blind: you cannot tell which pages attract visitors, where people give up, or where your traffic comes from - the evidence every content and budget decision should rest on.
Partial coverage is more insidious than none. If some pages lack the tracking snippet, those pages simply vanish from your reports, and the numbers you make decisions with are silently wrong. Because analytics is usually added to a shared template, a page without it often means pages built outside your main template - worth knowing about in itself.
How to fix it
- If you have no analytics, choose a solution and add its snippet to your site's shared template (or enable the CMS plugin) so it appears on every page.
- If only some pages are flagged, find what those pages have in common - a different template, an older section, a landing-page builder - and add your existing snippet there.
- Re-scan and confirm the flagged pages now pass.
How Silktide tests this
- Load each page in a real web browser, so analytics added by scripts and tag managers is included.
- Examine the loaded page for the fingerprints of known analytics solutions - the scripts, variables, and markup each product leaves.
- Report each page where no recognized analytics solution is found.
Troubleshooting
We have analytics but the check fails
There are a few common reasons:
- Unrecognized solution - Silktide detects known analytics products by their fingerprints. A custom-built or very niche solution may not be recognized.
- Server-side analytics - log-based or server-side measurement leaves no trace in the page, so it cannot be detected.
- Consent gating - if your cookie banner only loads analytics after the visitor accepts, the tracking may be absent when Silktide loads the page.
If your analytics genuinely covers the flagged pages, you can the finding.
Which pages should have analytics?
All of them. Analytics that misses pages produces misleading reports, so install it site-wide through your template rather than page by page.
