LIX

LIX (läsbarhetsindex, Swedish for readability index) adds two numbers: the average number of words per sentence, and the percentage of words longer than six letters. A higher score is harder to read. Carl-Hugo Björnsson created it in Sweden in 1968.

Because LIX counts letters rather than syllables, it works in many languages without changes. Silktide uses it by default for every language except English.

LIX does not produce a school grade, so pages scored with it have a but no . They count in Pages by reading level, but not in the average reading age.
