The Inspector with a keyboard or screen reader
This page explains how to move through the Inspector's issues, page preview, and page maps with a keyboard or a . For features that work on every screen, such as shortcuts, themes, and zoom, see Accessibility features.
The page preview is a copy of your own web page. How well the page itself works with assistive technology depends on your website, not on Silktide.
Move through checks and issues
- The Inspector has one main heading, the page's name, and each panel has its own heading.
- Inspector sections is a navigation list of the modules, each read with its number of open issues. The section you are in is marked as the current one.
- In the list of checks, each check is a button, and the check you are viewing is marked as the current one.
- In Issues, press Enter or Space to open or close an issue. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to move between issues, and Home and End to jump to the first and last. Each issue has a checkbox for selecting it.
- Previous related issue and Next related issue step through the same problem elsewhere on the page.
- Press J for the next item and K for the previous one.
Use the page preview
The preview is a picture of the tested page, so Tab skips over it. To use the page's links from the keyboard:
- Press Tab until you reach Browse page links.
- Press it. Focus moves to the first link you can see in the preview.
- Press Tab to move through the page's links, and Enter to follow one. See Following links in the Inspector.
- Press Escape to leave the preview.
When you select an issue, the preview scrolls to it and outlines it, while your focus stays in the list of issues. The issue's details in the list give you the same information as the outline.
- Preview view switches between Page and HTML. HTML shows the page's source code as text, with the selected issue's code marked. Search HTML source finds text in it.
- Color findings show each color as a code you can copy, so you do not need to judge the color by eye.
- The Page minimap is a slider: the arrow keys, Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End scroll the preview.
Click, scroll, and frustration maps
When Analytics has data for the page, page maps show where visitors clicked, scrolled, and got frustrated.
- The buttons that turn each map on and off say whether it is on. Opacity and Hotspot size in page pixels are sliders that move with the arrow keys.
- On the click and frustration maps, each marked element is a button, read with its rank, its name, and its number of events.
- The strip of dates under the maps has two sliders, Range start and Range end, read as dates.
The shading of a map is a picture. Its numbers are in the marked elements, and on the Analytics Clicks, Scroll, and Frustration screens.
